Her work with her team has been studying and reviewing published research on the Big Five traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. That research informs iGiftFinder's personality quiz and the trait pages on this site. The site's research notes record, for each study, whether the full text or only the abstract was read, and say where the evidence is missing.

Why iGiftFinder exists

iGiftFinder exists to help people choose more thoughtful gifts. The quiz is one way to do that: it asks a few quick questions about the person you are shopping for and turns the answers into a starting point for ideas.

What the research does and does not show

The research on personality and shopping is real, but most of it is about what people buy for themselves or how they react to advertising. We have not found a study showing which gifts people with a given trait prefer. For that reason the quiz is research-informed guidance, not a validated personality test, and it cannot promise a perfect gift. The quiz asks two questions each about openness, conscientiousness and extraversion, in our own wording. It does not use agreeableness or neuroticism, and the trait pages explain why. Treat your results as a prompt to think about the person, alongside their interests and your budget.
